Michael Spyres este un tenor american cunoscut pentru gama vocală largă (baritontenor) și un repertoriu care se întinde de la baroc până la romantism. Măiestria sa tehnică îi permite să cuprindă atât registrul de tenor, cât și pe cel de bariton, ceea ce îl face interpretul ideal al ciclurilor vocale solicitante.
Albumul pe CD prezintă ciclul de melodii Les nuits d'été (Nopțile de vară) al lui Berlioz pe versuri de Théophile Gautier în versiunea orchestrală și simfonia Harold en Italie (Harold în Italia) cu violă solo. Spyres, în calitate de baritontenor, abordează toate cele șase melodii din Les nuits d'été fără transpozițiile obișnuite, cântând astfel atât în registrul de tenor, cât și în cel de bariton. A doua parte a albumului o constituie Harold en Italie cu violistul britanic Timothy Ridout. Înregistrarea este realizată cu Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg sub bagheta lui John Nelson, specialist berliozian.
