The Alan Parsons Project a fost o formație britanică de rock progresiv, cunoscută pentru albumele conceptuale elaborate și sonoritatea cinematografică.
Albumul Tales of Mystery and Imagination: Edgar Allan Poe a apărut în 1976 la casa de discuri Arista, pe vinil, și reprezintă albumul de debut al formației. Conceptul se bazează pe opera lui Edgar Allan Poe, adaptând muzical povestiri și poeme precum The Tell-Tale Heart sau The Cask Of Amontillado. Titlul provine dintr-o colecție de povestiri macabre ale lui Poe, iar atmosfera întunecată, gotică a discului este completată de piese precum A Dream Within A Dream și amplul instrumental The Fall Of The House Of Usher.
