Alphaville este o formație germană de synthpop care a intrat în lumea muzicală la începutul anilor '80. S-a făcut cunoscută prin hituri precum „Big in Japan”, „Forever Young” și „Sounds Like a Melody”, care au definit sunetul synth-popului întregii decade.
Albumul Salvation a fost lansat în 1997 de casa de discuri Warner Music. Este ultimul album al trupei la această casă de discuri, precum și ultimul cu Bernhard Lloyd, care a părăsit formația în 2003. Această reeditare cuprinde 45 de piese pe 3 CD în format digisleeve cu booklet de 16 pagini – albumul original remasterizat este completat de single-urile „Wishful Thinking”, „Flame” și „Soul Messiah”, împreună cu versiuni radio, remixuri și alte înregistrări rare. Pe discuri se regăsesc compoziții precum „Monkey in the Moon”, „Guardian Angel” sau epica piesă „Point of Know Return”.
În momentul lansării Salvation, formația era alcătuită din Marian Gold (voce), Bernhard Lloyd (clape), Ricky Echolette (chitară, clape), Robbie France (tobe), David Goodes (chitară), Jakob Kiersch (tobe), Martin Lister (clape) și Rainer Bloss.
