The Band a fost o trupă rock canadiano-americană a cărei muzică a influențat dezvoltarea roots rock-ului și folk rock-ului. În 2004, revista Rolling Stone a clasat-o pe locul 50 în topul celor mai mari 100 de artiști muzicali din toate timpurile, iar trupa a primit premiul Grammy pentru contribuția de-a lungul vieții.
Albumul dublu The Last Waltz a apărut în 1978 la casa de discuri Rhino și reprezintă coloana sonoră a filmului lui Martin Scorsese, care documentează concertul final al trupei The Band din 25 noiembrie 1976, după 16 ani de turnee. Înregistrarea conține 30 de piese și se numără printre clasicele albumelor de concert. Pe placă se aud, printre altele, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Up on Cripple Creek, I Shall Be Released și Ophelia. Reeditarea pe vinil a apărut în cadrul campaniei Rocktober.
La momentul lansării, trupa The Band era formată din Richard Manuel (tobe, clape, lap steel guitar, vocal), Rick Danko (chitară bas, vioară, vocal), Levon Helm (tobe, chitară, vocal, mandolină), Garth Hudson (acordeon, clape, saxofon) și Stan Szelest.
