Trupa engleză de heavy metal Black Sabbath se numără printre pionierii genului. Formația a fost înființată în 1968 la Birmingham de vocalistul Ozzy Osbourne, chitaristul Tony Iommi, basistul Geezer Butler și bateristul Bill Ward. Grupul și-a creat un stil caracteristic cu riff-uri de chitară puternice și texte cu tematică horror.
Albumul Vol.4 din 1972 reprezintă un reper al heavy metal-ului. Această ediție box set superluxoasă pe cinci CD-uri conține versiunea remasterizată în 2021 a albumului original, outtake-uri în mixajul lui Steven Wilson, înregistrări alternative ale pieselor precum Wheels of Confusion, Supernaut sau Snowblind, și o înregistrare completă a unui concert din turneul din Marea Britanie în 1973, în mixajul lui Richard Digby Smith. Pachetul include de asemenea o carte și un poster al formației.
În timpul înregistrării albumului, componența Black Sabbath era formată din Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler și Bill Ward.
