David Bowie a fost un cântăreț, compozitor și actor englez, una dintre cele mai influente personalități ale muzicii populare din secolul XX. De-a lungul carierei sale de aproape cincizeci de ani, a vândut aproximativ 140 de milioane de discuri și a lansat 26 de albume de studio. A primit recunoaștere deosebită pentru munca sa pionieră din anii '70 și pentru prezentarea sa vizuală unică pe scenă.
Albumul Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars: The Motion Picture Soundtrack a apărut în 1983 la casa de discuri Parlophone ca înregistrare live de la Hammersmith Odeon din Londra, din 3 iulie 1973. Concertul a fost ultima oprire a turneului Ziggy Stardust Tour și totodată despărțirea de personajul fictiv iconic pe care Bowie îl întrupa. Înregistrările au circulat inițial în rândul colecționarilor, înainte de a fi lansate oficial împreună cu filmul documentar cu același nume. Acest set pe două discuri cuprinde 22 de piese, inclusiv versiunea inedită Medley: the jean genie / love me do / the jean genie cu chitaristul invitat Jeff Beck. Ediția vine într-un digisleeve cu 6 panouri și un booklet de 20 de pagini.
