Dream Theater este o formație americană de progressive metal înființată în 1985 în Boston. Grupul este alcătuit din John Petrucci (chitară), John Myung (chitară bas), Mike Portnoy (tobe), James LaBrie (voce) și Jordan Rudess (claviaturi). Trupa se numără printre pionierii metalului progresiv și este cunoscută pentru virtuozitatea tehnică și compoziții complexe.
Albumul Lost Not Forgotten Archives: Images And Words Demos (1989-1991) pe 2 CD-uri prezintă înregistrări rare de arhivă din perioada creației legendărului album Images And Words. Colecția cuprinde versiuni instrumentale ale pieselor clasice precum Metropolis, Take The Time și Learning To Live, înregistrări demo de la audițiile vocaliștilor din 1990, inclusiv A Change Of Seasons, demo-urile ATCO din 1991 și înregistrări demo de pre-producție ale pieselor Pull Me Under, Another Day sau Surrounded. Colecția include și compoziția inedită Oliver's Twist.
În perioada realizării acestor înregistrări, trupa a trecut prin schimbări de componență, ceea ce este documentat în special de demo-urile de la audițiile vocale anterioare venirii lui James LaBrie.
