Ella Fitzgerald (1917–1996) a fost o cântăreață americană de jazz renumită pentru dicția perfectă, frazarea și talentul improvizațional, în special în scat singing. Și-a început cariera cu orchestra lui Chick Webb, colaborând ulterior cu producătorul Norman Granz, care a fondat casa de discuri Verve Records pentru înregistrările ei.
Albumul Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Song Book a apărut în 1956 pe vinil dublu la Verve Records și face parte din celebra serie Songbook, în care Fitzgerald interpretează compozițiile marilor compozitori americani. De această dată s-a concentrat pe opera lui Cole Porter și a cântat, în 32 de înregistrări, standardele sale nemuritoare, precum I Get a Kick Out of You, Begin the Beguine, Love For Sale sau Let's do it. Este una dintre cele mai apreciate înregistrări din epoca de aur a jazz-ului vocal.
