Glenn Miller a fost un trombonist și lider de big band american din epoca swing. Între 1939 și 1942, discurile sale s-au numărat printre cele mai bine vândute. Avionul său a dispărut fără urmă în timpul celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial în timp ce zbura spre Franța.
Compilația The Essential Glenn Miller a apărut în 1972 la casa de discuri RCA Victor/Legacy și conține 38 de piese pe 2 CD-uri. Include standarde de jazz precum In the Mood, Tuxedo Junction, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Little Brown Jug, A String of Pearls sau Pennsylvania 6-5000. Albumul oferă o trecere în revistă a operei unuia dintre cei mai importanți reprezentanți ai jazz-ului big band din anii patruzeci.
