Grateful Dead a fost o trupă americană de muzică rock fondată în 1965 în Palo Alto, cunoscută pentru stilul eclectic care îmbina rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, country, jazz, psychedelia și reggae. Trupa a devenit celebră pentru improvizațiile lungi de la concerte și pentru baza devotată de fani numită Deadheads.
Reeditarea aniversară a celui de-al cincilea album de studio American Beauty din noiembrie 1970, lansat inițial de casa de discuri Warner Bros. Records, apare acum pe trei discuri sub Grateful Dead Records. Albumul a continuat sonoritatea country și folk rock a materialului anterior Workingman's Dead, absorbind influențele lui Bob Dylan și Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Această ediție extinsă conține cele 10 piese originale de studio, inclusiv Truckin', Ripple și Box of Rain, și adaugă o înregistrare completă de concert de la Capitol Theatre din Port Chester, NY, din 18 februarie 1971 — în total 33 de piese.
La album au contribuit Ron „Pigpen” McKernan, Jerry Garcia, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Tom Constanten, Bruce Hornsby, Robert Hunter și Rob Wasserman.
