Grateful Dead a fost o trupă americană de rock, fondată în 1965 în Palo Alto, California, cunoscută pentru stilul său eclectic care combina rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, country, jazz, psychedelia și alte influențe. A devenit renumită pentru improvizațiile din timpul concertelor live și pentru baza de fani dedicați, cunoscuți sub numele de „Deadheads”. În 2007 a primit premiul Grammy pentru întreaga carieră.
Workingman's Dead este al patrulea album de studio al trupei, lansat pe 14 iunie 1970 de Warner Bros. Records. Revista Rolling Stone l-a declarat cel mai bun album al anului 1970. Înregistrat în februarie 1970, albumul, împreună cu următorul American Beauty, se îndepărtează de experimentările psychedelice ale albumelor anterioare în favoarea stilului Americana al lui Jerry Garcia și Robert Hunter. Această ediție remasterizată din 2020 conține în total 16 piese, inclusiv Uncle John's Band, Casey Jones și Cumberland Blues, precum și înregistrarea bonus a concertului din 21 februarie 1971 de la Capitol Theatre din New York.
La momentul lansării albumului, trupa era formată din Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Ron „Pigpen” McKernan, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, Tom Constanten, Bruce Hornsby, Robert Hunter și Rob Wasserman.
