The Human League este o trupă britanică de new wave și synthpop din Sheffield, formată în 1977. A obținut un succes comercial semnificativ la începutul anilor '80, după o schimbare decisivă de componență.
Albumul Octopus din 1995 este al șaptelea album de studio al trupei, lansat de casa de discuri EastWest. A fost primul album nou după cinci ani și după încheierea contractului pe termen lung cu Virgin Records. Înregistrarea originală a fost produsă de Ian Stanley, claviaturistul Tears for Fears. Versiunea extinsă pe 2CD oferă în total 23 de piese, inclusiv versiuni demo ale tuturor înregistrărilor de studio și câteva single-uri rare – printre care Tell Me When în ediția 7″, The Bus to Crookes sau Stay With Me Tonight.
Albumul a prezentat The Human League ca trio în componența Philip Oakey (claviaturi, voce principală), Joanne Catherall (voce principală) și Susan Ann Sulley (voce principală). La scrierea albumului au contribuit, de asemenea, fostul membru al trupei Jo Callis și claviaturistul Neil Sutton.
