Jim Croce a fost un cântăreț și compozitor american de muzică folk și rock, care între 1966 și 1973 a lansat cinci albume de studio. A atins succesul major în 1972 cu albumul You Don't Mess Around with Jim, de pe care piesa Time in a Bottle a ajuns pe primul loc în topurile americane după moartea artistului. Un alt hit numărul unu a fost piesa Bad, Bad Leroy Brown de pe albumul următor, Life and Times.
Compilația Definitive Croce aduce pe trei CD-uri o selecție din opera sa. Colecția cuprinde hiturile menționate și alte piese semnificative precum Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels), I Got a Name sau Photographs and Memories, care ilustrează talentul lui Croce pentru compunerea de piese emoționante cu elemente de folk și rock.
