The Mamas & the Papas a fost o trupă americană de folk-rock care a influențat decisiv scena muzicală a anilor '60. Sunetul caracteristic al formației se baza pe armonii vocale în patru voci masculin-feminine, aranjate de John Phillips, autorul majorității pieselor.
Compilația Gold aduce pe 2 CD-uri o selecție de 32 de înregistrări din perioada creativă 1965–1968, când trupa a lansat cinci albume de studio și a vândut aproape 40 de milioane de discuri la nivel mondial. Colecția include toate cele unsprezece single-uri de succes care au intrat în Top 40, printre care California Dreamin', Monday, Monday, Dedicated to the One I Love și Creeque Alley.
În perioada înregistrărilor, formația era alcătuită din Denny Doherty, Cass Elliot, John Phillips, Michelle Phillips și David Perper la tobe.
