Pat Metheny este un chitarist de jazz și compozitor american, începând cu mijlocul anilor șaptezeci, unul dintre cei mai respectați și de succes reprezentanți ai instrumentului său. Este deținătorul a douăzeci de premii Grammy și a primit NEA Jazz Masters Award în 2018. Opera sa acoperă un spectru larg – de la jazz progresiv și post-bop până la jazz fusion și jazz latino-american.
Albumul Road to the Sun a fost lansat în martie 2021 la casa de discuri Modern Recordings. Este împărțit în două părți principale: Four Paths of Light (o compoziție în patru mișcări interpretată de chitaristul clasic Jason Vieaux) și suita de șase piese Road to the Sun, interpretată de Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. Înregistrarea cuprinde în total 11 piese, inclusiv Für Alina. Colaborarea lui Metheny cu chitariști clasici demonstrează capacitatea sa de a explora noi căi muzicale menținând în același timp sunetul caracteristic, imediat recognoscibil.
