New Riders of the Purple Sage este o trupă americană de country rock care s-a format în scena rock psihedelică din San Francisco în 1969. Componența inițială includea mai mulți membri ai trupei Grateful Dead, motiv pentru care formația mai este numită pe scurt New Riders sau NRPS. Sunetul lor îmbină hippie country rock cu elemente West Coast, iar hitul Panama Red le-a adus recunoaștere.
Box-ul Original Album Classics a fost lansat pe cinci CD-uri în 2017 de casa de discuri Columbia. Compilația conține albumul de debut The New Riders of the Purple Sage (1971), pe care trupa combină West Coast cu country, apoi Powerglide (1972), Gypsy Cowboy (1973), The Adventures of Panama Red (1973, cu invitații Buffy Sainte-Marie și Memphis Horns) și înregistrarea live Home, Home on the Road (1974). În total, 61 de piese documentează epoca în care grupul s-a impus ca proiect independent cu un stil recunoscibil.
