Vítězslav Novák (1870–1949) a fost un compozitor ceh, pedagog și pianist, una dintre figurile cheie ale muzicii cehe din secolul al XX-lea. A studiat sub îndrumarea lui Antonín Dvořák și ulterior a predat la conservatorul din Praga. Opera sa se înscrie în romantismul târziu și modernismul muzical ceh.
Albumul Piano Works pe CD prezintă lucrări pentru pian interpretate de František Rauch. Înregistrarea cuprinde ciclul amplu Șase sonatine op. 54 cu titluri programatice (Jaro, Z dětského života, Prázdniny, O pohádce, Loupežník și Vánoce), monumentala Sonata eroica op. 24 și poemul sonor Pan op. 43. Dvoialbumul oferă o perspectivă asupra operei pianistice a lui Novák, care se remarcă prin colorit armonic bogat și formă elaborată.
