Pink Floyd este o trupă engleză de rock înființată la Londra în 1965, cunoscută mai ales pentru textele filosofice, experimentele sonore și spectacolele de concert extrem de elaborate. Trupa a trecut de la rock psihedelic la rock progresiv și a devenit unul dintre cei mai importanți pionieri ai genului.
Albumul The Wall, lansat la 30 noiembrie 1979 prin casa de discuri Pink Floyd Music Ltd., este al unsprezecelea album de studio al trupei și totodată ultimul album în componența clasică, activă din 1968. Albumul dublu a apărut pe două discuri de vinil cu 26 de piese în total. Este o operă rock ce povestește despre Pink — un muzician care, din cauza traumelor din copilărie (pierderea tatălui în război, umilințele cauzate de profesori) și din viața de mai târziu (destrămarea căsătoriei), își construiește un zid metaforic care îl izolează de societate și de fani. Printre cele mai cunoscute piese de pe album se numără Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2, Comfortably Numb și Hey You. Albumul a avut un succes comercial uriaș, ocupând prima poziție în Statele Unite timp de 15 săptămâni și atingând locul trei în Regatul Unit.
La momentul lansării albumului, Pink Floyd era format din David Gilmour (chitară, voce), Roger Waters (chitară bas, voce), Nick Mason (tobe) și Richard Wright (instrumente cu clape).
