Queen este o trupă britanică de rock fondată în 1970 la Londra, a cărei muzică, la început, a fost influențată de rock progresiv și hard rock. În timp, formația s-a orientat și spre genuri mai comerciale — de la rock clasic și pop rock până la funk și R&B.
Albumul de debut Queen a fost lansat pe 13 iulie 1973 în Regatul Unit de casa de discuri EMI Records; această ediție remasterizată este oferită de Hollywood Records. Înregistrările au avut loc la studiourile Trident și De Lane Lea din Londra, iar echipa de producători — Roy Thomas Baker, John Anthony și chiar membrii trupei — a realizat un sunet compact și dinamic ce îmbină hard rock-ul și glam-ul. Albumul conține zece piese originale — printre cele mai remarcabile se numără piesa rock Keep Yourself Alive, piesa progresivă Liar și My Fairy King cu atmosferă basmică. Coperta cu Freddie Mercury în lumina reflectoarelor a fost concepută de Mercury și Brian May împreună cu Douglas Puddifoot. În clasamentul britanic, albumul a ocupat locul 24 și a pus bazele erei caracteristice a trupei — mențiunile de pe copertă subliniază că „nimeni nu a folosit sintetizatorul”.
Componența din 1973 era formată din Freddie Mercury (voce), Brian May (chitară, voce de acompaniament), Roger Taylor (tobe, voce de acompaniament) și John Deacon (chitară bas).
