Jean-Philippe Rameau a fost unul dintre cei mai importanți compozitori francezi și teoreticieni muzicali ai erei baroce. S-a remarcat ca succesor al lui Jean-Baptiste Lully în domeniul operei franceze, în care a adus mai multă dramaticitate, expresivitate și intermezzouri variate.
Albumul Dardanus Orchestral Suite pe CD oferă o selecție orchestrală din opera Dardanus a lui Rameau, interpretată de dirijorul John Eliot Gardiner și English Baroque Soloists. Înregistrarea cuprinde dansuri și piese instrumentale din prolog și toate cele cinci acte – uvertură, menuete, tamburine, gavote, rigaudoane și ritualuri de vis. Este o demonstrație a coloriturii orchestrale caracteristice și a eleganței muzicii lui Rameau.
