Sting (numele real Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner) este un muzician, cântăreț și compozitor englez. Între 1977 și 1986 a fost solistul vocal și basistul trupei rock The Police, cu care a obținut succes mondial. Din 1985 urmează o carieră solo ce combină elemente de pop, jazz, reggae și world music.
Compilația The Very Best of… Sting & The Police a fost lansată în 1997 de casa de discuri Interscope Records și include 18 piese din ambele perioade ale carierei artistului. Găsiți aici hituri clasice precum Every Breath You Take, Roxanne, Message in a Bottle și Englishman in New York, precum și un remix al piesei Roxanne realizat de rapperul Sean „Puffy” Combs. Albumul surprinde diversitatea creației lui Sting – de la new wave-ul trupei The Police până la experimentele sale solo cu diferite genuri muzicale.
