Formația britanică de rock progresiv Yes, fondată în 1968, este unul dintre cei mai importanți reprezentanți ai art rock-ului și ai rock-ului simfonic din anii '70. Al cincilea lor album de studio, Close to the Edge, a fost lansat în septembrie 1972 prin Atlantic Records și a devenit o piatră de hotar a genului progresiv. Acesta a fost ultimul album cu toboșarul original Bill Bruford înainte de plecarea sa la King Crimson.

Albumul conține trei compoziții extinse: suita omonimă de optsprezece minute, Close to the Edge, care în forma originală pe vinil ocupa întreaga primă față, precum și And You and I și Siberian Khatru. Înregistrarea a avut loc la Advision Studios din Londra și a fost deosebit de solicitantă din cauza perfecționismului formației. Super Deluxe Edition pe 5 CD, LP și Blu-ray include, pe lângă înregistrarea originală, remixuri ale lui Steven Wilson în Dolby Atmos și 5.1 DTS-HD, înregistrarea de concert Live At The Rainbow din Londra din decembrie 1972, versiuni alternative, mixuri instrumentale și editări ale pieselor, toate remasterizate recent în 2025. Albumul, în lungimea sa originală pe vinil, este completat de materiale bonus consistente care cuprind single-uri, repetiții de studio și mixuri inedite.

La momentul înregistrării, membrii formației erau Bill Bruford (tobe), Jon Anderson (voce principală), Chris Squire (chitară bas), Steve Howe (chitară), Rick Wakeman (instrumente cu claviatură) și Alan White (tobe).
