Neil Young este un cântăreț, compozitor și chitarist canadian, a cărui operă se remarcă prin texte profund personale, un stil distinctiv de chitară și o voce tenorală caracteristică. Cele mai cunoscute lucrări ale sale aparțin rockului folk acustic și hard rockului electric. A devenit celebru ca membru al grupurilor Buffalo Springfield și Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, dar mai ales ca artist solo, cu albume precum Harvest (1972) sau Rust Never Sleeps (1979).
Albumul Dorothy Chandler Pavilion 1971 pe CD oferă un concert solo acustic din 1971. Înregistrarea conține 15 piese, printre care Heart of Gold, Old Man, Ohio și The Needle and the Damage Done. Este o mostră autentică a expresiei personale a lui Young într-un aranjament acustic mai intim.
