Desmond Dekker a fost un cântăreț și compozitor jamaican, una dintre primele vedete internaționale ale reggae-ului, care a devenit celebru la sfârșitul anilor '60. Împreună cu grupul The Aces, a avut unul dintre primele hituri reggae care au reușit să pătrundă și în afara Jamaiicii – piesa Israelites (1968). Muzica sa îmbină ska, rocksteady și reggae timpuriu cu o abordare melodică inspirată de rock'n'roll.
Compilația Essential Artist Collection a apărut în 2023 la casa de discuri BMG în format 2CD și cuprinde 50 de înregistrări esențiale din cariera lui Dekker. Printre piesele remarcabile se numără Israelites, 007 (Shanty Town), It Mek, You Can Get It If You Really Want și King of Ska. Selecția oferă o privire de ansamblu asupra operei unui artist care a fost printre pionierii reggae-ului în Marea Britanie și a avut succes în clasamentele britanice chiar înainte de ascensiunea lui Bob Marley.
