Dream Theater este o trupă americană de metal progresiv fondată în 1985, care se numără printre cele mai importante formații ale genului. Combină riff-urile heavy metal, virtuozitatea tehnică și structurile compoziționale complexe specifice rock-ului progresiv.
Albumul Awake Demos 1994 a fost lansat în 2006 la casa de discuri Inside Out Music și cuprinde 11 înregistrări demo. Reprezintă o privire unică în procesul creativ al trupei în perioada creării celui de-al treilea album de studio Awake. Printre înregistrări se numără compoziții progresive mai lungi precum Scarred (11:16), The Mirror (10:13) sau Voices (9:31), dar și piese mai scurte precum The Silent Man sau Lie.
La momentul lansării înregistrărilor demo, trupa era formată din John Petrucci (chitară, voce de fundal), James LaBrie (voce principală), John Myung (chitară bas, Chapman stick), Mike Portnoy (tobe, percuție, voce de fundal), Jordan Rudess (instrumente cu clape, continuum, lap steel guitar) și Steve Stone.
