Earth, Wind & Fire este o formație americană de R&B, fondată în 1969 la Chicago. S-a remarcat prin îmbinarea de soul, funk, jazz și disco, caracterizată de o puternică secțiune de instrumente de suflat și de vocea în falsetto. Trupa a câștigat zece premii Grammy, a fost introdusă în Rock and Roll Hall of Fame și a vândut peste 90 de milioane de albume în întreaga lume.
Compilația The Essential Earth, Wind & Fire a fost lansată în iulie 2002 de casa de discuri Columbia/Legacy ca dublu album pe 2 CD-uri, cu 34 de piese acoperind perioada marilor succese ale formației. Albumul a primit certificare de aur în SUA. Setul include hituri de vârf precum Shining Star, That's the Way of the World, September, Fantasy, Getaway sau After the Love Has Gone.
În momentul lansării albumului, componența Earth, Wind & Fire era formată din Maurice White (tobe, voce, kalimba), Philip Bailey (congas, voce, kalimba), Verdine White (chitară bas), Ralph Johnson (tobe, percuție, voce) și Sheldon Reynolds (chitară, voce).
