The Kinks este una dintre cele mai influente formații rock britanice ale anilor '60. Trupa londoneză a fost înființată în 1963 de frații Ray și Dave Davies împreună cu Pete Quaife. Au devenit o parte importantă a British Invasion și au influențat generații de trupe cu chitară, inclusiv The Jam și The Pretenders.
Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One a apărut la 27 noiembrie 1970 ca al optulea album de studio al grupului. Acum este reeditat pe dublu CD la casa de discuri BMG. Albumul conceptual examinează în mod satiric industria muzicală — edituri, sindicate, presă, manageri și viața pe drum. Albumul a marcat extinderea trupei la cinci membri odată cu venirea claviaturistului John Gosling. Înregistrarea cuprinde în total 33 de piese, inclusiv mixaje alternative și versiuni live, printre care single-urile Lola, Apeman și Powerman.
La momentul lansării albumului, trupa era formată din Ray Davies, Dave Davies, Mick Avory, John Gosling și John Beecham.
