The Pogues este o trupă britanică ce la începutul anilor '80 a creat un gen complet unic, numit punk celtic – o îmbinare a muzicii irlandeze tradiționale cu energia punk. Trupa s-a format în 1982 în cartierul londonez King's Cross sub numele Pogue Mahone (o deformare a expresiei irlandeze „sărută-mă în fund”) și a căpătat rapid reputație datorită concertelor live energice din cluburile londoneze. În muzica lor se întâlnesc instrumentele tradiționale irlandeze – fluierul, banjo-ul, mandolina, acordeonul – cu o sonoritate punk mai dură.
30:30: The Essential Collection este o compilație lansată în 2013 la casa de discuri Rhino, care adună pe două discuri compacte treizeci de piese esențiale din creația The Pogues. Veți găsi aici duetul iconic Fairytale of New York, pasionata If I Should Fall From Grace With God, coverul tradițional Dirty Old Town și compoziții energice precum Sally Maclennane sau Streams of Whiskey. Colecția oferă o imagine convingătoare a creației trupei care s-a înscris în istorie ca cei mai proeminenți reprezentanți ai folk-punk-ului anglo-irlandez din anii '80.
În anul lansării compilației, trupa funcționa într-o formulă de cinci membri: Jem Finer, Spider Stacy, Andrew Ranken, Darryl Hunt și David Coulter.
