Ennio Morricone a fost un compozitor, dirijor și orchestrator italian, considerat unul dintre cei mai importanți creatori de muzică de film din toate timpurile. Pentru peste cinci sute de opere cinematografice, a primit două premii Oscar, trei Grammy și numeroase alte distincții.
Compilația Collected a apărut în 2014 la casa de discuri Universal Music ca set pe trei discuri CD. Conține 68 de piese de muzică de film din perioada 1961–1986, cu accent pe genul western – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once Upon a Time in the West, For a Few Dollars More – și alte compoziții de film emblematice ale lui Morricone, precum The Ecstasy of Gold, Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion sau The Sicilian Clan. Selecția surprinde stilul caracteristic al lui Morricone, care îmbină sonoritatea orchestrală cu instrumente neobișnuite și experimente vocale.
